Help & FAQs
Find answers to common questions about using GolfHandicapp.
Getting started
How do I create an account?
Download GolfHandicapp from the App Store or Google Play. Sign up with your email address and complete the short onboarding flow to set up your profile and handicap.
What information do I need?
Just your name, gender (used for handicap calculations), and optionally your current handicap index and home club.
Adding rounds
How do I add a round?
Tap the "Play" tab or the "Start New Round" card on the home screen. Search for your course, select the tee you played from, enter your hole-by-hole scores, and save.
What if my course isn't listed?
GolfHandicapp has over 24,000 courses across 59 countries. If yours is missing, contact us at support@golfhandicapp.com and we'll add it.
What if the tee doesn't have course rating and slope?
You can enter the course rating and slope rating manually when adding a round. Check your club's scorecard or website for these numbers. Your entries are saved for future users of that course.
Understanding your handicap
Your handicap is calculated using the World Handicap System (WHS) methodology. For a detailed explanation, see our handicap calculation guide.
Key concepts
- Handicap Index: your overall playing ability, portable across courses
- Differential: how you played relative to course difficulty on a specific round
- Playing Handicap: strokes you receive on a specific course
- Course Rating: expected score for a scratch golfer
- Slope Rating: relative difficulty for a bogey golfer (55–155, standard 113)
Course features
How does nearby course search work?
GolfHandicapp uses your device's GPS to find courses near you. This requires location permission, which you can grant or deny. No background tracking is used.
Can I leave a course review?
Yes — visit any course detail page and scroll to the Reviews section. Tap the star rating and write your review.
Language
What languages does the app support?
The app, notifications, and stats are available in 6 languages: English, Español (Spanish), Français (French), Deutsch (German), Italiano (Italian), and Português (Portuguese).
How do I change the app language?
Go to More > Settings > Language. You'll see a list of supported languages along with a "System default" option that follows your phone's language. Pick one and the app reloads in that language.
Will the app auto-detect my language?
Yes. On first launch, the app reads your phone's language. If it's one of the 6 supported languages, it'll use that automatically. Otherwise it falls back to English. You can override this any time via Settings > Language.
Why is the course description still in English when I'm using another language?
Course descriptions are stored once in English and not translated automatically — there are too many of them to translate at acceptable quality. The small "(English)" pill next to the description tells you the description is in the source language. The rest of the app interface — buttons, labels, notifications, stats — is fully translated in your chosen language.
Account management
How do I change my name or photo?
Go to More > Settings. Your display name and profile photo can be changed there.
How do I adjust my handicap manually?
Go to More > Settings > Handicap section. You can manually set your handicap index.
How do I delete my account?
See our account deletion page for instructions.
Troubleshooting
My handicap seems wrong
Your handicap is calculated from your best 8 of the last 20 rounds. Check that all your rounds have correct course ratings and slope ratings. You can edit any round from its detail page.
Rounds aren't showing on the home page
The home page shows rounds from all users. If you just added a round, pull down to refresh. If the issue persists, contact support.
